The perfect idea to entertain the kiddies during the summer holidays. Storytime Ballet: The Sleeping Beauty is coming to The Events Centre Caloundra for five performances only.

The ballet presented by Australian Ballet Company is an enchanting ballet experience for children aged three and up.

Experience all the dazzling wonder of The Sleeping Beauty in a live, interactive production created especially for children. There will be fairies in glittering tutus, storybook characters, and a prince’s quest – all set to Tchaikovsky’s hum-along score.

Running for under an hour, and packed with favourite characters like Red Riding Hood and Cinderella, this narrated version of The Sleeping Beauty will entertain adults and kids alike. Don’t forget to dress up in your favourite ballet-inspired outfit!

The Treehouse Kids Christmas Party

The Treehouse Kids Christmas Party

Where: Sunshine Coast Stadium, Bokarina

Enjoy a big day out celebrating Christmas and helping to raise funds for a worthy cause at the Treehouse Kids Christmas party.

Help raise funds that allow The Treehouse to continue to provide support to the local community with access to resources, life skills programs and social events.

The day will include heaps of family friendly and fun activities including:

  • Face painting
  • Balloon animals
  • Slime zone
  • Jumping castles galore
  • Chair swing ride
  • Pony rides
  • Tea Cup ride

There will also be a chill out zone where you can rest and recuperate for a while on one of the comfy bean bags.

Mary Valley Rattler

All aboard! A nostalgic train journey aboard an old “rattler” (steam train) through the scenic Mary Valley will make its debut in Autumn 2018.

Old Gympie Station will open 5 days per week (Wednesday – Sunday) at the end of December. Here you can explore the specialty retail shop, museum and café restaurant. On Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays enjoy a steam train demonstration, where you can learn all about firing and preparing the engine as well the amazing complexity of these grand old machines.

Come along to the Mary Valley Rattler Family Fun Day on Saturday 16 December. Bring the kids for a fun-filled day with Santa, treats and of course the C17 974 steam locomotive which will be proudly displayed. This will also give visitors the opportunity to have a sneak peek at Old Gympie Station and the amazing transformation it has undergone.

From Autumn 2018 your will be able to take a journey through the picturesque Mary Valley, and into the days of yesteryear on one of the lovingly restored steam trains.

The historic 40 kilometre Mary Valley journey starts at Gympie and, after crossing the Mary River, negotiates an abundance of curves, gradients and bridges to pass through the small country villages of Dagun, Amamoor and Kandanga to Imbil. The railway line and Gympie station date back to pre-1880.

The Hot 91.1 Ignite Chilli Festival will be heating up the streets of Caloundra with a diverse range of chillies on Saturday 25 November.

The festival features unique stalls offering products related to anything chilli including; arts and crafts, fashion, street food, jewellery, home-wares and lifestyle products with a focus on handmade and local wares.

Shops, restaurants, bars and other businesses based in the heart of Caloundra will also be participating and celebrating the mighty chilli. There will be competitions and draws done throughout the afternoon with some great prizes.

To accompany good food and good vibes there will be lively bands and entertainment plus a full program of activities on the boil. Lets just say it will be “hot” ! Plus there will be the popular annual chilli eating competition to really get things heated up!

There will be over 120 exhibitor stalls of eco-friendly, healthy living and personal growth products and services.   Exhibitors range from promoting services to selling products, or both. Take a drive into the scenic Glass House Mountains during your stay in Caloundra. These iconic “odd-shaped” series of mountains to the west of Caloundra make for spectacular photo opportunities and picture-postcard views.

The scenery will unfold before your eyes as you drive into a series of 14 mountains, including Mt Tibrogargan, Mt Beerwah Mt Coonowrin and Wild Horse Mountain.

There are a series of walking trails with scenic lookouts such as the Glass House Mountains Lookout Circuit, Trachyte Circuit and Wild Horse Mountains Track. Or for the adrenalin junkies there are rock climbing adventures at Mt Tibrogargan and Mt Ngungun.

Drive up to The Glass House Mountains Lookout on Glass House to Woodford Road for the best panoramas of the 14 mountains. After you have finished your walk around the Glass House Mountains Lookout Circuit or you have had enough of the gorgeous views, head down the hill to the Lookout Cafe for a bite to eat or a coffee, where the views are equally as splendid.

Otherwise just enjoy the drive as the roads take you through strawberry, pineapple and macadamia nut farms and little townships dotted throughout the region with majestic views of the mountains through your windscreen.

You can download a walking trails map or a driving map  and set off for a day trip with stops along the way to take in this scenically abundant region. The Glass House Mountains Circuit Drive is around a 30 minute drive from Caloundra, off the Bruce Highway.
